Happy Valentines Day! I hope each & every one of you, gentlemen included, have an absolutely magical day. For all my single humans out there, I hope your day is filled with candy, chocolates, and lots of smiles!
If you read the previous post, which you can find here, then you are already well aware of my thoughts on this day. I used to be annoyingly vocal, and quite emo, about the whole ordeal. I actually once purchased a pair of flats with skulls, crossbones, & broken hearts on them. Talk about a drama queen moment, but, to be fair, I was only 16. Now I simply use this day to celebrate self love & my favorite thing; eating sweets!

Valentines day treats are always so much more delicious because they are decorated so perfectly. An ordinary sugar cookie immediately becomes extraordinary with some pink icing & sprinkles! As you have probably already guessed, this post is about my own sugar cookie decorating adventure!
In the spirit of all honesty, these cookies are store bought sugar cookies. (still extremely tasty though) I simply wanted to decorate cookies myself for valentines day, instead of buy them already decorated! My busy work schedule doesn't always allow for actual baking time, which is truly a shame because I genuinely LOVE baking. I do have a recipe for sugar cookies that I use & it has yet to fail me!

Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups all purpose flour
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F. No more & certainly no less!
In a bowl mix the butter and sugar until smooth.
Add in vanilla & almond extracts and your egg.
In a separate bowl combine baking powder and salt with flour. Make sure you add a little flour at a time to the wet ingredients. The dough will be very stiff. If it becomes too stiff for your mixer then move the dough onto a countertop surface. Wet your hands and finish kneading the dough by hand.
DO NOT CHILL THE DOUGH. Divide into workable, easy batches. Set down some parchment paper, sprinkle it with flour, & roll out onto the floured surface! You want these cookies to be a little thicker, so make your cookie balls somewhat bigger. If you'd like then you can cut them into little heart shapes for valentines day!
Bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes. Let cool on the cookie sheet until firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack, usually about 2 minutes.
Finally, once cool enough, DECORATE!
Unfortunately, my dress & my shoes that are worn in these photos are both sold out! I'm sorry! I did find just as cute alternatives, so don't forget to click the link & check those out. As always, do not forget to visit Chanel Photography too! If you give this recipe a try then let me know how it goes!
xoxo, Kristin Noel
