power of positive thinking

In my last post I mentioned how I had been focusing on all of the things that I want now. One of the things that I mentioned was to be able to help inspire and motivate people to think more positively. So I am going to share with you guys how I finally started to get my shit together. It started as an overnight mindset shift for me. I decided that there were changes I needed, and wanted, to make and stuck to it. The first thing I did was download the RISE app by Rachel Hollis. I am a huge Rachel Hollis fan. I am actually listening to her podcast while I write this. The way she tackles life and constantly finds the positives inspires me, so I knew that if I was really going to stick to this then I better have the best!

The second thing I did was establish a morning routine. (which by the way her RISE app really helped me with) A morning routine is super important to helping you keep a positive mindset. It is what sets the tone for your entire day. If you are someone who hits the snooze button a million times, is always rushing to get out of the door on time, and is usually exhausted by the time you get to work then establishing a morning routine might change your whole life. It's not always that easy though. Some days I wake up and genuinely have a rough morning, am really tired, or simply don't feel like being peppy. Let me tell you, it takes everything in me to pull myself from my bed when I wake up and just am not feeling it, or am nursing a raging hangover. I know you all know what I am talking about. Let's not pretend you haven't had a tequila infused night before.

With all of that said, it's important to wake up an hour earlier than you normally do. It gives you an hour to yourself before your day really starts! An entire hour where you can focus on anything you want. Maybe thats going for a run, hitting an early gym class, cooking breakfast, or even spending an hour browsing all of your social media. Whatever you need to do to fill up your cup first thing in the morning; thats what you should spend your hour doing.

For me this hour is for filling out my start today journal and priority planner. (more on these another time!) I like to start my day with five things I'm grateful for from the day before. It already sets my mind up for having a good day. Then I throw on some gym clothes and take my dog, Lola, for a walk around the neighborhood. I usually listen to my pump up jams on this walk! We all have them and I am not ashamed to say that my pump up jam is WAP by Cardi B. Say what you want about this song, but the beat slaps and in my head I am a rap Goddess. After this walk I come back and jump in the shower and start getting ready for work! I like to finish a bottle of water while I am getting ready for work too. It helps me stay on track, keep my energy levels up, and reach my daily water intake. Usually, by the time I walk out the door I am beyond ready to accomplish anything that day!

I am not saying to follow my exact routine (you can if you want though), but if you can establish a routine that works for you then you are already halfway to getting your shit together. I have off days too! I have definitely had days where I still hit my snooze button, run a little late, or skip a step. Give yourself a little grace. Change doesn't happen overnight. It's an accomplishment just to make the decision to be more positive and establish the routine in the first place!
